Trekking Colombia - the Lost City
Ciudad Perdida (Spanish for "Lost City") is the archaeological site of an ancient city in Colombia's Sierra Nevada Mountains, near the town of Santa Marta. It is believed to have been founded about 800 A.D., some 650 years earlier than Machu Picchu.
Ciudad Perdida consists of a series of 169 terraces, carved into the mountainside, a net of tiled roads and several circular plazas. The only way to access the lost city is via a 3 day trek, passing through indigenous villages and following a clear, rushing river. The entrance to the city is reached by climbing 1,200 stone steps through dense jungle.
This is a remarkable trek for physically fit people who appreciate history, physical challenges, unique native cultures and gorgeous mountain scenery.
